How to remove yourself from Clearview AI
Clearview AI is a facial recognition database, not a name lookup. Its privacy page offers separate request options for residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Utah and Virginia, plus an opt-out form for Illinois. It asks for a headshot to verify you, and says deletion rights aren't absolute.
On average, Serus sends about 184 removal requests per person, 89% of them to data brokers, so expect Clearview AI to be one of many.

How to opt out of Clearview AI
- 1
Open the privacy and requests page
Go to clearview.ai/privacy-and-requests. It lists request types by where you live.
- 2
Pick your state's request
The page has a section for each of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Utah and Virginia. Most cover access, deletion, do-not-sell and correction, and some add opting out of profiling or appealing a denied request. Illinois residents get an opt-out webform instead: Clearview says it blocks Illinois-linked information from appearing in future searches.
- 3
Provide what Clearview needs to verify you
Clearview says you must give it information to verify your identity, and that it collects a headshot for opt-out, deletion and access requests.
- 4
Send it and keep a copy
Submit the request. For questions, the privacy contact is privacy-requests@clearview.ai.
Watch out for
- Clearview's policy says your rights are not absolute: exemptions can apply and some requests can be refused.
- Clearview must keep some records of data rights requests, so it keeps part of what you send.
- A separate de-index tool at app.clearview.ai/privacy/deindex only removes links that are already dead. It won't remove URLs that are live and public.
- You're sending a photo of your face to a company that holds a face database. That's the trade-off of using this route.

Does it come back?
Clearview doesn't say. It says images it can match to the photo you supplied will no longer appear in its search results, so new photos of you that it collects later may not be covered.
Your rights
Clearview is on the California data broker registry, where it reports a median of 17 days (mean 14) to respond to deletion requests in 2024.
