How to remove yourself from illumin

Also known as illumin Inc.

illumin takes delete, correct, know and opt-out requests through the data subject request form linked from its Data Subject Access Request page. It keeps request details up to 2 years and may refuse a deletion needed for billing, fraud prevention or security.

On average, Serus sends about 184 removal requests per person, 89% of them to data brokers, so expect illumin to be one of many.

    Open the request page

Go to illumin's Data Subject Access Request page and follow its link to the data subject request form.

  2. 2

    Pick your right

  3. 3

    Authorized agents

If someone files for you, they have to use the form.

  4. 4

    If you're an illumin client

With a login to the illumin platform, ask your organization's administrator first.

Watch out for

  • Where illumin only processes data for its clients, the client owns the data and illumin may route your request to them.
  • A deletion can be refused if the data is needed for billing, fraud prevention or security, or if law prohibits it.

Your rights

California: CCPA. If you live in California, the CCPA lets you ask a business to delete the personal information it holds about you and to stop selling or sharing it. Businesses generally have 45 days to respond.

California: the Delete Act. Data brokers that hold information on Californians must register with the state. California residents can use DROP, the state's Delete Request and Opt-out Platform, to send one deletion request to every registered broker at once.

Other US states. Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Oregon and a growing list of other states give residents a similar right to delete. Vermont, Texas and Oregon also make data brokers register with the state. Where no state law applies, the broker's own opt-out above still works for most people.

Canada: PIPEDA. You can withdraw your consent to a company using your personal information and ask it to correct what it holds. If it doesn't respond, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
