How to remove yourself from MaxMind
MaxMind sells IP address location data, not people profiles. Its opt-out page takes a request to stop the sale of your IP address, but MaxMind warns that some sites may then misjudge where you are or block logins.
On average, Serus sends about 184 removal requests per person, 89% of them to data brokers, so expect MaxMind to be one of many.

How to opt out of MaxMind
- 1
Open the IP Address Opt-Out page
Go to maxmind.com/en/opt-out and read the notes about service interruptions before you fill in anything.
- 2
Fill in and submit the form on the page
The page asks you to complete and submit its form to opt out of the sale of your IP address.
- 3
Know what happens next
MaxMind may put your IP address on a Do Not Sell list that its customers can see in their accounts. Those customers may use the list only to carry out your request.
- 4
Opt back in by email
If the opt-out breaks something you use, email privacy@maxmind.com to ask for an opt-in.
Watch out for
- Opting out can stop sites from working out where you are. MaxMind says some may block logins or features, such as a password manager or streaming.
- Your IP address goes on a Do Not Sell list its customers can see.
- Home IP addresses change. An opt-out for one address doesn't cover the next one your provider assigns.

Does it come back?
MaxMind doesn't publish a relisting policy. Because the request covers an IP address and many home connections get new addresses from time to time, expect to submit it again for a new address.
Your rights
MaxMind's privacy policy has a section for California and another for Nevada. A third covers a list of other US states, and there are sections for Europe and the UK, Brazil and China.

Frequently asked
Does MaxMind know my street address?
MaxMind says it ties an IP address to a postal code or a larger region, never to a household or street address. Its coordinates point at public places like a park, and the accuracy radius is 5 km or more.
What happens if I opt out?
Online businesses may be unable to tell where you are. MaxMind says some may block logins or other features.
Can I undo a MaxMind opt-out?
Yes. Email privacy@maxmind.com and ask for an opt-in.
